Raw Homemade wants to inspire and empower families to create non-toxic simple DIY cleaning and beauty products. It starts by taking one eco step at a time. It doesn’t need to be overwhelming, costly or extreme. Leanne’s journey started with foaming hand soap, which is one product which will be demonstrated at the Make and Take DIY workshops at the Eco Expo.
About Leanne Neiland
Founder and creator of Raw Homemade, Leanne, was raised on the Sunshine Coast in an environmentally responsible family before it was ‘on fleek’ to be #lowtoxaware and #zerowaste.
Upon leaving school Leanne trained as a Registered Nurse specialising in Intensive Care. When her children were born she moved into community nursing to avoid shift work. It was here working as a nurse and becoming a mum that Leanne became passionate about creating a ‘low tox’ home for her family.
Working as a community nurse enabled her to meet and learn from hundreds of elderly clients. It was obvious to her that prior to the 1960’s and 70’s simpler products were used in the home. Families did not use a different cleaning product for each surface in their home, they did not use artificially scented products such as air fresheners, perfumes, deodorant and candles, women wore less make up and followed simpler skin care regimes. One surprising fact is that in her 17 years as a Registered Nurse she has never come across an elderly client with an allergy to nuts or eggs, or with a gluten intolerance.
